Report from The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee following its inquiry into engineering biology. The committee explored “engineering biology’s potential, particularly in delivering UK economic growth through commercialisation and for improvements to public services; which areas of engineering biology the UK is well placed to exploit and where additional support may be needed; and the ethical, regulatory and safety implications of rapid developments in the field”.

The report states that urgent action is required to prevent the UK “seeing the econoimc and industrial benefits of sciene and technology developed here exploited overseas and urges a re-commitment of the “previous Government’s £2 billion funding target over ten years to main the UK’s R&D sector”. The report makes a number of recommendations across “several policy areas the UK must get right to support a flourishing sector”: strategy, skills, regulation, infrastructure, investment, adoption and governance.
