Developing International Opportunities
There is an urgent need for sustainable bio-based industrial development around the world to break our dependence on fossil carbon resources, reduce carbon emissions, and make better use of waste biomass. Wealthy nations with a strong science base have an opportunity to assist developing countries move to a sustainable bio-economy. The UK is well-placed in this regard through the operation of the Newton Fund and Global Challenges Research fund, which have substantial budgets to support such activities. In addition, the global move towards sustainable bio-based industries can provide a major opportunity for UK industry. To enable our community to make the most of these opportunities, we propose to have three calls for proposals for fact-finding and relationship building visits to developing countries on the OECD Development Committee’s list of least developed countries.
Applicants may apply for up to £25,000 for these visits, and will be required to produce a substantive report on the findings of their visit.
More information about this call will follow soon.
